"Best" is relative, and more of a personal choice. What works best for me might be utterly useless for you. Why don't you try it and figure out if it works for you, or not?

The make install needs a /lib file but it's not a dependency, apparently. Maybe I have to check the exact versions of all deps manually.

/lib is the wrong location for a ports/packages file.
