Another trick is to just boot a live system (from usb stick perhaps) - the OP already did do this.
Then mount the partition for the system failing to boot, and edit any files that needs correcting. And then it will boot again.
Yes, I created the correct devd file (I hope) and restarted devd. I have also run this as 'root' to get by any permissions issue. (It happily tells me I'm running as root - but it still gives the error above.)
I did that according to section...
- install Xorg and friends.
- try startx. Do you get a working X environment? With correct resolution, colors, etc.? If so you passed the first test.
Then you move on to more advanced testing; accelerated graphics and all that stuff.
You don't need a DM for any DE or WM that I'm aware of for FreeBSD. The point of a DM is primarily for when you're starting your DE/WM from init. A quick google indicates that that doesn't appear to have changed.
The main benefits that I know...
If you want an official answer, you can try the mailing list archives. I'd be surprised if it hasn't been discussed there at some point. The emails there should contain whatever the official reason for not having it are, if there was a deliberate...
Hard to tell because they stopped doing IRC logs in 2024. The previous directors meetings here show very little action. Almost nothing outside of XDC planning and re-elections.
More leadership is demonstrated in an average Xlibre bug ticket ;)
gotnull, that's correct, it's marked as Tech Preview. It was still marked that last time I tried FBSD-16-CURRENT snapshot, so I don't know if it will change by the time 16 comes out. (Snapshot is from 2026-01-13, if anyone cares).
Who knows there is so much trash out there it is possible, the summary is by this sites software I do believe so if they use garbage AI to so it then that is here it came from. All I know is the Xorg people have got off their asses and are doing...
That is the monitor lottery I spoke of earlier as I call it where they desktop opens the program on any damn monitor it chooses to do so on regardless of where you had it located. I eventually found a .kwin script that the author wrote to fix...
Yes that is the way with the Wayland crowd all style over substance the total BS at all times being put forward to try and con the uninformed into believing they have something worth while. Because of number one "security" and number two they are...
So, 15-RELEASE is out with Linux 6.6 DRM.
Is anyone running a B580, Xorg/3D accel/desktop/videos, does it all work normal? I don't care about Unreal Engine 5 woes or whatnot.

A quick check on my work laptop gave me more than 10 places where libcurl is installed, spanning 10 years of releases. This is what you get from container cult.
I have recently performed a major upgrade on my FreeBSD systems from 14.3 to 15.0 using the traditional freebsd-update(8) procedure and then pkgbasified the upgraded 15.0-RELEASE to the new pkgbase system.
On these upgraded systems, I have been...
People often don't realize that the filesystem schema of a partition has no relation with the actual filesystem on that partition. You typically use the same identification but there's nothing technically stopping you from formatting a...

Layer 3, i.e. standard TCP/IP routing. With or without NAT.
Nope. You already know why:
Anything you can configure on the modem/router? Lots of ISPs give you a completely locked down device though, can't configure much, if anything at all.
That's not going to happen with those "fake" drives. It'll claim there's free space but there's simply nothing, so it ends up acting like /dev/null, data simply disappears into the void. If you can write past the actual end of the flash memory at...
And usually un-upgradeable. You have 27 installations on one computer, all of which with components with known security holes. And they break if you go into the container and update yourself.
Hard to believe that a piece of software that only gets distributed via docker and is based on libraries that are totally unportable is actually useful for anything.
My 2c: use tools that enable your success.
I'm using FreeBSD since 4.9, migrated from Slackware. But I'm not forcing FreeBSD on setups where it's clearly creating issues that a) cannot be solved b) require lots of my time when there is cleaner...
Yes, the handbook, last I looked, seemed a bit behind. I have a page on it, covering a few things that I didn't find at the time, much of it based upon posts here (and some reddit ones) at https://srobb.net/fbsd14_15.html, including using bectl...

That article's meta discription (og:description, twitter:description) makes a nice attempt at viral "affirmation marketing" but its nonsense in two ways.
1) Wayland is struggling to take hold in the Linux world, let alone the wider *nix world
2)...
The fillér was 1/100 of a forint, and is out of circulation for some time now.
Just checking, the forint is at 0.0026€, which would make my first price offer for that promise come in at 0.000026€. That's how much I'd wager on that statement being...
So there may be, probably, a chance on an attempt to have a try on testing the possibilities of maybe a resurrection of the old XOrg for the time being? Great. I'll buy that for a fillér.
Because of a DHCP failure I'm continuing my debugging of the problem in a new thread:-

how about you actually read the document describing the protocol? https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc1531.html
this way you get actual information instead of a generated stream of potential nonsense
If I want to know if a particular host has been seeking an IP address I guess I need to grep FILE]/var/log/daemon[/FILE] for DHCPDISCOVER and the MAC address of the host.
Your suggestion fixes it. Thanks. I had tried to set JAVA_HOME as an environmental variable before posting the problem but never succeeded. Now starting jedit with your shell script from a terminal or from the icewm menu, now calling the...
Crumb 1502: About Rules and Exceptions: How many exceptions can a rule have to stop being a rule?

Written in LibreOffice Writer on FreeBSD 15 running KDE Plasma 6.5 on Wayland.
