sidetone reacted to cy@'s post in the thread IPF Why does IPF still exist? with Thanks Thanks.
The IllumOS folks have expressed interest in replacing their IPF 4.2.8 with IPF 5.1.2 as we have done. Having the same firewall software on multiple platforms is something I've done at $JOB - 1. I had a number of Solaris and FreeBSD systems...

I know this is an old thread, but I'd like to share my failure with htpasswd.py. As of Oct 2025, the encrypted password created by htpasswd.py is different from that by Apache's htpasswd. I haven't investigated the detail but I'd recommend to...

I believe that a few IllumOS distributions use IPFilter. It makes sense to have firewalls which have more widespread use across multiple operating systems. I let misconceptions and confusion about IPFilter affect my view about it earlier.

I'm marking the thread as SOLVED and I confirm that after getting rid of all that crud the Virtualbox about page now reads: VirtualBox Graphical User Interface Version 7.2.0 r170228 © 2004-2025 Oracle and/or its affiliates (Qt6.9.2 on xcb)...

Sorry I was unclear. This is only about using a Passkey to log into the website. Here is a more detailed explanation: At the top of the FreeBSD Forums webpage, click on your name. That brings up the "Your Account" dropdown. From that dropdown...

See, the stupid project of Xlibre keeps being brought up. It's a stupid project, so I don't blame Void for trying to hide it. This is exactly why. Void didn't attempt to sabotage the community, they wished to make some stupid project go away...

Right, I get it's not clear what exactly is the issue, or where if you're not familiar with any of the 'technical' details. Alternatively, every SA or EN has a patch file at the bottom, you could look at the paths of the files being patched...

On my local poudriere builds, when bandwidth of disk I/O is eaten up by pararrel, multiple and massive extracts and/or packaging, one or two of them fails due to timeout. The failure smells like the situation.

Awesome suggestion! I had more than a hundred libQt6* files there, I moved to a temp directory and now both Libreoffice and Virtualbox start just fine. So my question is: there are a ton of other files there, for example 105 libKF6* and some...

Look at the specific SA or EN. You could also tell from the list of files freebsd-update wants to update, if it includes a kernel update you'll see it wants to update /boot/kernel/kernel (and often a bunch of kernel modules in /boot/kernel/ too)...

Yeah, but that's often some weird loop during the build phase. Now it seems to fail when extracting the distfile. Haven't seen that one before, but perhaps I missed it, don't use it myself.

This has been going on as long as OSS has been relevant. Microsoft and SCO were doing this crap in the 90s, and they still continue. They just now try to be more subversive and quiet instead of being big, loud, and in your face.
