I honestly didn't know that daemonforums are still up and running! Just logged in (somehow, I managed to remember my password – thankfully my mnemonic in the line of "correct horse battery staple" worked) and I was informed that my last login was...
For a scanner, I'll recommend checking first SANE: Supported Devices and then, if needs arise that you'll need near-pro quality scan cross examine with LaserSoft Imaging SilverScan Supported Scanners.
SilverScan is the best scanning software...
I don't think Linux is more or less complex than FreeBSD, although it depends a bit on the distro of course. There's differences for sure, and some bits are more complex, but that goes both ways.
systemd is more complex, sure, and that's usually...
True all of that, but also Coca-Cola in not available in Cuba (okey, one can find it in the black markets, but still).
Cuba Libre is Coca-Cola + Rum (choose your poison of preference) + ice + lime, since at least 1902, and who forbid what for...
I do see information on the Internet that tipping is just not a thing in Japan. When in US, however, it kind of depends on whether the dining experience merits a standard tip of 15% or even more. I generally tip if I don't experience a problem...
I must admit, my experience in eating/drinking in restaurants and bars is limited on few countries: my native Serbia, neighboring Bulgaria and Hungary, Botswana and South Africa. It didn't happen to me never ever anywhere that I was served a bad...
AFAIK you set it in the /etc/make.conf for direct build in the OS, or in your podriere /usr/local/etc/poudriere.d/make.conf. That should (please, someone correct me if I'm wrong) override PYTHON_DEFAULT?= 3.11 from bsd.default-versions.mk
I tip what is customary and not what social media will have you believe. I tip according to what the NY Times used to say though they have caved a bit in recent years.
Great service 20%. OK service gets 15%. I don't hate you but I want to send a...
No need for grepping through everything (side note: ‑count flag). python has its own (virtual) ports category (virtual = no directory in /usr/ports). Considering a secondary category, too, pkg search -S origin python lists some 4700 packages.
If I am in countries that require tipping for the staff to make livable wages (USA, Canada, many "developing" countries etc.) I tip according to custom, unless I get charged a service fee anyhow. In countries without a tipping need/culture (such...
If I ever get unpleasant / rude server (very rare, I can remember only few occasions), I'll told them eye-to-eye (politely and in in low, quiet voice) that this is not appropriate behavior towards paying customer – I never snitched them to their...
I think that computing-related politics are OK to an extent. Like the "Cathedral and Bazaar" paper tried to explain the model of software availability and options people have for what software they can install on their metal. It was an...
Interesting. I have a minimal 15.0 install and as its minimal there's no UPDATING. I just upgraded to ALPHA4 and now tint2, or, if in fluxbox, fluxbox's panel, as well as dmenu, will only show upper case, e.g., the date reads as SATURDAY, etc...
I often follow these threads and think of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. They start a discussion about one thing and then, for an absurd reason, totally lose track--maybe Mac says, off-handedly, how he did an optical patdown of a patron, and...
This is only US based for me: wife and I don't go out much so I tend to overtip. But I recognize the server has little input how well a meal is cooked. I've have excellent service, but crap food; specifically my food never came out, wife got...

I left the router running without the transmission running and it was all fine. But after a day of running the transmission demon I get to this again:
Stopping the transmission demon did not fix it. For some reason those threads are stuck and...
When I was just getting into my teens, my dad taught me: "If you have just enough for a drink, but not for a tip, don't even bother going in".
I always tip. Sometimes over-tip. I'm not rich, on the contrary, I'm quite poor, but those folks don't...
This is not a Linux forum, but a civilized one ;)
While the forum is "off topic", individual threads are not a "free for all" but should at least generally adhere to the topic intended (IMHO). And when it gets political, nothing good ever comes...
Sorry, I tend to be too literal sometimes, but what isn't the answer to what exactly?
I'd appreciate if you would care to be more specific about this, thanks.
Re-implementation of freedesktop's X.Org; and it's obvious (at least to me, and looks...
Original article here.
Consider this when replying.
The fourth ALPHA build for the FreeBSD 15.0 release cycle is now available. ISO images for the amd64, armv7, aarch64, powerpc64, powerpc64le, and riscv64 architectures are FreeBSD mirror sites...
Just in case, for people coming upon this next year, looking for posts about xorg, though I've mentioned it before, there is also Alpine Linux's Wayback

Still experimental I think...
To be honest, I'm not a fan of doas, either... I believe that sudo/doas are just reinventing the wheel with no real technical merit. ZFS was a game changer, unlike any other filesystem. Ext2, ReiserFS, JFS, UFS - they were not different enough to...

As far as I know, FreeBSD doesn't honor the persist option of doas, meaning you have to type the password every time. Alpine Linux does accept the persist keyword, which I find interesting. Opendoas doesn't seem to honor it either.

I don't care for such personal remarks.
He brought criticisms of that on himself. It's kind of evident. It's his stupid ways, mostly not him personally that's getting attacked.
It's kind of what I said, how they stake stupid positions, then act...
It's not the word libre, it's the anti-vax, anti DEI attitude of the founder that turns people off. So not things, as far as I know, that should affect libreoffice.

LibreOffice doesn't have stupid overly polarized memes. The word "Libre" isn't the problem. Sure, Libre could imply Che Guevara, but LibreOffice didn't state that. Che isn't nearly as highly polarized as what's going on with this.
Yeah, but that...
If Xlibre is offensive, can one assume that LibreOffice is equally offensive?
pkg search "libre" shows lots of things.
So is libre offensive? plug "libre" into your favorite internet search engine you get a lot of things.
Kind of my opinion at...
