I suggest the use of the XFS file system

UFS2 has been around a long time. I think that XFS would be a great replacement. I also think that for small systems, ZFS is overkill.
  1. XFS is a high performance system and is quite stable. I won't list its many virtues, you can easily look them up on its wiki page.
  2. If Freebsd FreeBSD is ever modified to become a real time operating system, XFS would be a great fit.
  3. XFS has already been partially ported to Freebsd FreeBSD, why not finish the job?
  4. With XFS, we would have an easy bridge to Linux.

What do you people think?

Ask the developer(s) in question to finish the job, or offer to help with it yourself(*). Then people would be able to choose whatever they like.

Ad (*): There's been a recent announcement here about submitting (potential) GSoC projects. See the Announcements forum. Idea?

Agreed. But then again using ZFS with FreeBSD is not mandatory, just popular.
