Solved XFCE on 386 PC

I have installed freebsd 12.2. On start up the screen resolution is 640 x 480. The next question is that I cannot boot up xfce . I have the rc.conf file setup according to the handbook To start it requires startx but only brings up xterm green terminals. I installed gnome and it works perfectly. i have dbus_enable="YES in my rc.conf file when installed xfce was used. Stiill would not boot. I tried installing sddm included it in my rc.conf file but no success. I have installed ports and all freebsd installs work.
Any suggestions? I would like to reinstall with xfce.

There is no way in hell you have gnome 3 working on a 386.

thanks I reinstalled and used the startxfce4 and it worked.

I'm sure hortdog means an i386 aka 32 bit PC, not an actual 80386. The kernel for 12.2 is built for a 486 and higher and would require a custom build to get it to work on an actual 386.
