Xfce Xfce 4.20 Power Manager Battery Status Problem

I'm getting three different charge percentages in xfce (see below). This is on a refurbished ThinkPad 470s. In addition, when the panel display hits 50%, the pc shuts down with apparently no charge. I've been googling and reading the docs but cannot figure out what is going on, let alone how to correct it. Anyone familiar with this issue?

Looks like the laptop is failing to switch to the second battery when needed, which is the bigger issue here. The desktop popup appears to measure only the second battery, while the panel status averages to the two batteries' charges.
