X11 question

Can I run x11 then choose whether or not I want to run gnome or kde or xfce? If so what commands do I need?

If you want to do it from the console it's as simple as setting up a .xinitrc and typing startx.

If you want to run slim or some other login manager there is a gui menu for which desktop or wm you would like to run.

I have x11 set up,what my question is how can I go from x11 to gnome or kde

If you just want one or the other all the time, see The Handbook. If you want to choose a particular WM on demand, you need one of the "display managers" like x11/slim.
