Other Write-protection override?

Mornin',
I have two USB drives I am trying to format on FreeBSD with gpart.

# gpart show lists the devices fine. But when I attempt to # destroy or # newfs I get a "write-protected" error. I can understand this on older drives, but happening on new drives? Both are new and reputable company hardware. Bad drives maybe? This is maddening.

Sure there's no tiny write-protect switches or anything like that?
Correct. One is an Onn, from a 3-pack, that I won in a drawing a few nights ago at a Christmas party and the other is a Sandisk Ultra USB 3.0. The Sandisk has it's out of the box files that I can move to another drive, but I can't move anything into it. I did more research and I don't think these are working properly, going to file them DOA.
