VSCode vs VSCodium

I surprisingly learned that VSCode is available on the packages, this is pretty cool, I already installed it.

I wonder why not packaging VSCodium instead, which gets rid off all the telemetry built into VSCode, perhaps it would be a preferable option. ?

Some extensions which work with vscode don't work with vscodium.
