ZFS USB SSDs

How well are multi TB USB3 SSDs supported under freebsd (for ZFS)? Strictly for a local backup copy of ZFS. Any recommendation? Ones to avoid?

I also need to update my 7 year old {file,VM}server. On it M.2 support was not great. Now I am thinking building the FS using just nvme devices. Wondering how well this will work.... Would love to hear if anyone has any favorites.

I use various M.2 NVMe SSDs in USB 3 enclosures with no problems, including for boot.

I use the SSK enclosure, although it only provides 10 Mbit/s and its screw setup is annoying. But USB functionality is good.
