I've spent some time with libusb20(3). For a libusb/libusb20 client, I think it is possible to inject an alternate backend to the one provided by libusb20_be_alloc_default(). The cool thing is this all takes place in userland. Don't need to touch the kernel. Any program that understands libusb or native libusb20 runs unmodified.
