As I can see all those tremendous trims began on May 2023. The last one on January, 3rd. (Why? The file is not huge at all, and by the trim links in this file became "not found".)You can browse the tree online:
ports - FreeBSD ports tree
cgit.freebsd.org
The version of UPDATING on main runs from 20210113 through 20231229
Do you know, how to get previous version, and not .diff file from the history? You can browse the tree online:

Thanks, that was not obvious for me.
As far as I can see, somehow the trim was approved, but it is bluntly formal to the date of release end of life.I noticed this too, and some useful information like how to safely upgrade e.g. perl simply had the references removed rather than incorporating & updating the relevant information. I recovered the old file from a snapshot but I'm left wondering why it was considered to be an improvement to not only remove guidelines that are still helpful but to make it look as if they were never there.
