I have spent half a day verifying that I am not doing something weird. I know we generally do not do beta support, but I was hoping someone else may have a quick solution. If not, I apologize.
I have done FreeBSD installs so much (basic installs anyawy) it is muscle memory. I did a fresh install of 15-BETA4 (and also 15-BETA5 from today) and I get the same issue. At first I thought it was because I was using the latest ports, but I just reproduced this on my laptop without changing anything and just installing then upgrading.
In addition, during the install, I could not use pkgbase from the external repository (internet), it always gave me an error. I had to choose the option to install the pkgbase sets locally form the usb stick. I am so thankful for boot environments btw.
This is the error I get when I do a simple pkg upgrade. It extracts for a bit, and always fails here (I used truss pkg upgrade):
I also tried to do a forced install of FreeBSD-src of a different version (FreeBSD-src-15.0.b5.20251107060943.pkg) and got this result:
I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I am doing nothing different than any of my previous installs. But clearly I am.
I am happy to give as much information as needed. Thank you.

I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I am doing nothing different than any of my previous installs. But clearly I am.
I am happy to give as much information as needed. Thank you.
