Solved Unable to select boot environments in boot menu after upgrade to 12.0

I currently have 6 boot environments managed by beadm. Four of these are FreeBSD 11.2 and two are FreeBSD 12.0.

When either of the FreeBSD 12.0 environments are set as the active environment I'm unable to select alternative boot environments from the boot menu. Choosing option 7 from the menu only gives me 3 choices, e.g.:

  1. Back to main menu
  2. Active zfs:ssd/ROOT/fbsd12.0a (1 of 6)
  3. bootfs zfs:ssd/ROOT/fbsd12.0a

Is this a bug or a 'feaure'?

Following a reply to a post in the FreeBSD questions mailing list I now understand that it's a new 'feature' and it's still possible to switch BEs by hitting '2' to cycle through all the BEs. It hadn't occurred to me to try this because I'd wrongly assumed that it would just select the displayed BE which was already selected so no point in doing that.
