Thunderbird mailboxes vanished

After some update of mail/thunderbird I've lost folders of my installed mail accounts. Now when I start a thunderbird I get a screen to enter a mailbox credentials just like there was no previous installation. And no mail in folders tab. But I had plenty and some thunderbird directory is still present in my home folder and looks good as always. Is there any way to return my folders?

open a terminal and type the following; ls -la ~/.thunderbird what does it show?
Code:
> ls -la ~/.thunderbird

All your stuff is probably in ggo5dwav.default, poke around there and check to make sure. As to how to reconnect it to Thunderbird's profile system, I would defer to someone else.

Thank you, I am aware of that. I even backed up this directory. I can see names of my email accounts etc. One more interesting thing is that Address book is O.K. in Thunderbird, I can see its contents, but mail folders vanished.
(Why's that and) how to make it work again?..

What I've done in the past is to move the profile directory, create a new profile, and then rename the old one to the new name and move it back (deleting the new, empty one).
