I will always remember the feeling. I started Doom - on an IBM Thinkpad - and accidentally touched the TrackPoint stick. My mind just exploded when I saw what was happening on the screen.
Some years later when Carmack had released the source into the open and I read that Susy Deffeyes from IBM had ported Quake to AIX I actually tried to port Doom to AIX as well but didn't find the time to finish it. It ran but had alot of issues left to be fixed. Since I had to move on to other things I put a tarball of aixdoom on the ftp archive at funet.fi and forgot about it. It was really fun to try and understand how Carmack had done it.
