Solved SSH with TOTP

I'm looking for configuration guidance on using TOTP with SSH, I'd initially found this and thought it seemed quite easy...

Too easy, it would seem pam_per_user went the way of the dodo.

I'd appreciate any feedback on offer to emulate this setup as explained in the link, thanks.
