Sound control is grayed out in gnome3

I have FreeBSD and sound manager is grayed out, though sound is working I have no control over it .
Does anybody has a solution for that ?

(Memo: You have to set the pulseaudio option)

As far as I know Gnome 3 also relies on PulseAudio, just like Gnome 2 did. If PulseAudio isn't configured (or turned off using build options) there's no way Gnome is able to control the audio volumes.
