Hi,

I failed to find the answer to my question searching posts here and on Google.

Currently I have a Windows 7 machine which dual boots FreeBSD 8.4 (thanks EasyBCD!). It works fine, and FreeBSD has been source-upgraded from version 8.1. Seeing all the posts regarding FreeBSD 9 and MBR vs. UEFI made me wonder if I will suffer should I attempt source-upgrade to FreeBSD 9.1. But at the same time, all the posts I read pertained to initial install.

My situation differs in that the install is already done and FreeBSD 8.4 works fine. Can a source-upgrade to version 9.1 succeed if Windows is MBR?

I don't see why it wouldn't work. FreeBSD 8 and 9 are almost identical booting-wise if the partitioning is MBR.

Upgrades from source or binary do not affect disk partitioning. It will be fine.
