Solved [Solved] How to delete contents of a directory?

I attempted to install the FreeBSD handbook by downloading a split HTML file in tar.bz2 format. I accidentally extracted the contents of the file into my home directory and this has resulted in more than 1000 HTML files being placed in my home directory.

I want to reverse what I accidentally did and remove all of these files and instead place then in a separate folder. How do I do that?

I have tried deleting my user account as root and then creating it again. The files are still there. Obviously I cannot properly use my user account when my home directory is messed up in this way. Can anyone help with this?
