Solved [Solved] cannot install FreeBSD 9.2 server with adaptec 2420

Hello,

I am trying to install FreeBSD 9.2 on the server which has hardware RAID based on Adaptec 2420sa and 4 SATA disks in RAID 10. The machine is working fine with FreeBSD 6.4. I can initiate install with version 8.3, but when I try to install 9.2 I get:

aac0: COMMAND 0xffffff8000a74150 (TYPE 502) TIMEOUT AFTER 139 SECONDS.

On the Adaptec site there are drivers for FreeBSD 5,6, but not the latest FreeBSD. Can anybody give me advise on how I can complete the install in that case, thank you.

It took me quite a while to find the answer so I put it here ...

following http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-stable/2013-August/074576.html it seems that setting during boot

hw.aac.enable_msi=0

lets the controller work fine.

Then it is just about adding that line to /boot/loader.conf.
