Solved SLiM startup very slow

Thanks sidetone . Agree, what you say seems like a logical reason for it.

I have tried to use the first /etc/pf.conf setup again with the result x11/slim waiting issue coming back again.

It doesn't make sense to me either, but maybe because it runs on a local (loopback?) server, and the firewall interfered with it. A lot of local processes can be seen by typing netstat.

That may be the case. If so this /etc/pf.conf line added to the first configuration will work just fine.
Code:
set skip on lo

Sorry for my late reply junovitch@, and thank you for your solution. I appreciate it.

I tried adding the line and x11/slim is appearing within a couple of seconds :)

/etc/pf.conf :
Code:
block in all
pass out all keep state

set skip on lo
