Resurrecting a deleted port

I'm interested in resurrecting the mapnik port which was deleted in 2020.
I have built and run the latest version, from the git repo, on a FreeBSD 13.1 system so it is possible to make it work.
If I grab the ports files from here and updated them to make the port build how do I get it back into the active port tree?

• Set yourself as the MAINTAINER (be sure you're willing to maintain the port)
• Open a PR on bugzilla and attach a patch.

The IMHO best format for a patch is using git-format-patch(1), for that do a commit on a local branch. This commit can then be applied to the main branch by a committer.

Of course, a "simple" diff is fine as well.

That is the downside to using github (and gitlab) - everyone starts using the built-in features like issues and pr's.
Note: this is not meant to criticize the switch to git.
