Removing pattern lock from mobile phone

Does anyone know if it's possible to remove the pattern lock from a mobile phone (android) whilst still retaining data?

Sure. Go to the settings and change the method to pin.
Buuut, where is the FreeBSD angle here?

I can see that I phrased the question wrongly. I meant is it possible to remove a pattern lock if you've forgotten it.

I didn't think there needed to be a FreeBSD angle in Off-Topic. Sorry if I've misunderstood the point of this forum.

Not in general, but as soon as it's about any kind of "technical support" (which this seems to be), the general rule is "FreeBSD only", see also:

There's almost always a way, it would probably often involve "hacking" the firmware/bootloader to get full access, this depends a lot on the model of the phone ... so in a way this also explains why we have this notion of "too off-topic" here ;)

Many years ago, you could find a lot of helpful stuff about "hacking" Android devices on xda-developers. Didn't look there for a long time, but might also be an option to check.

the off topic selection needs to be removed from this sight as it is not actually allowed to be used for off topic conversations or questions. because the world wide entire planet understanding of what the term off topic means is not being adhered to on this sight under the heading of "off topic" therefore why bother using it?

off topic : not relevant to the subject under discussion.

is therefore anything not pertaining to FreeBSD then is by definition is off topic

it's just a question and a suggestion.

I have to suppose you "didn't understand" what was written previously on purpose. But then, if you don't like the rules here, nobody forces you to stay.

I didn't say nor imply in any way, shape, or manner that I "didn't like the rules" here. I mealy am presenting the truth behind what "off Topic" really means and showing that that its self is not following the rules not me or anyone posting a question in the thread titled "off topic" become in violation of the "rules" because the rules governing the term in here for Off Topic are in violation and not the people.

that is the only rule in here that I see that is out of order and not the people using that off topic and getting slammed for it because there questions has nothing to do with FreeBSD as I have already shown they are not in violation by world wide definition of the term. so take it back it its source to find out who is really out of order.

sorry you cannot see that truth.

you being a developer should be able to see that and problem solve it.
