qemu Reboot in FreeBSD guest does not reboot host VM

Hi,

I want to use 12.3-RELEASE on a cloud provider and load it using the installer downloaded from freebsd.org.

On Linode or Vultr, when I issue a reboot command within FreeBSD, it effectively halts the OS as if it's going to reboot. But the VM containing it does not actually reboot. It just sits there, even overnight in one of my tests. The last message displayed in the Vultr console is 'uhid0 detached' or similar. The Linode console called glish gives no such output. In both cases, I have to reboot the instance from my account dashboard.

OpenBSD installed in the same way does not have this problem. The pre-loaded FreeBSD images (not necessarily 12.3) on Vultr and DigitalOcean do not have this problem. I had planned to test this with 13.0 once I got 12.3 working.

What can be done to fix this? What additional information would be helpful?

Thanks in advance!

Thank you trev. I re-installed with a new instance on Vultr. reboot works now. I'll try re-installing with a new instance on Linode too and see if shutdown -r now works. Thank you for the help.
