Question: Can 2 Sound Drivers be So Similar that the Code for the two works the same..
im wondering because i dont know if for example: Realtek has a ton of ALC Codecs,
and in the OSX86 Region of the world theyre all using the Same Driver????<-
Sort of, if they follow the same standard, Intel High Definition Audio for example. But then you wouldn't have a need for two drivers, just one driver to rule them all, snd_hda(4).
With Intel mobos I've seen HDA options like UAA or non-UAA and Intel SST. Iirc UAA allows regular Realtek/Intel HDA drivers and speciality DSP stuff optional, but non-UAA forced specialty DSP and/or Intel SST. On Skylake I preferred UAA/HDA on Linux, and non-UAA on Windows (it gave my audio a diff PCI ID and prevented WU from auto-installing outdated HDA stuff )
With Intel SST there's something about it and SoF and Intel MEI; I have MEI disabled and with the same Realtek ALC chip, if I enable SST I get no audio in Linux because of SoF being required and it needing MEI for firmware loading; same chip works fine with regular HDA/SST disabled.
Motherboard firmware/settings can affect audio drivers differently, and it's one setting to go from a nice HDA-complaint driver that works any-OS to requiring a special driver for whatever Intel/mobo DSP has as a benefit (and likely manual pin management if it's newer/exotic).
