Solved qt4-corelib and qt4-gui are now EOL?

This thread is written as a possible cause for alternatives and workarounds due to devel/qt4-corelib and x11-toolkits/qt4-gui EOL. All of my FreeBSD boxen have been built to function with a HP-Officejet-6600 printer. I build it so that CUPS will work with those two ports/packages. But now I see that these are EOL and I am anticipating the need to have workarounds or alternatives ready for a printer back-up plan B.

First of all, I see a new series of qt5-* ports/packages and at first assumed these would naturally replace the qt4-* series; am I right?

Second, can CUPS be configured with GTK instead of Qt-*?

As always, any comments, hints and suggestions are welcomed.

Applications trendy enough to be rewritten for QT5. Old unmaintained QT4 applications will rot on the vine.
Unmaintained applications that depended on qt4 libraries are going fail too.

You should be able to find a GTK cups configuration tool.
