Solved Programming HMI/PLC combined unit with FBD language

Do you have any successful experience and/or story, using FreeBSD as a developing platform, for programming HMI/PLC combined units, with FBD language (preferably).
I'm using Windows and related-IDEs (provided by manufacture/vendor) to edit configurations, program both HMI and PLC, and more and more combined units, recently.

I get to see the end result of PLC programming. I work with a large dredge companies boats and they are suprisingly automated.
What they use is Allen Bradley marinized controllers.
Dredges have gigantic pumps (8 foot diameter case) and lots of valves and hoppers in the machinery spaces.
So they have custom HMI controllers with flow directions and tank level indicators sensors. They also have sediment to water ratio sensors.
Much automation with very loud alarms.
I have also fiddled with the Caterpiller engine controllers. They are very slick these days. Even the generators.

In our shop we use HAAS CNC Lathe and MIll. They both run on top on some version of Windows embedded.
