Solved Problems with X and/or terminal

Hi,

I just installed 10.1 (after having played with 10.0 for a week). I installed xorg and xfce with gdm. I added enable_gdm, hald and dbus to rc.conf. Rebooting started the GNOME login manager where my problems began. I couldn't log on and thought I could check the configuration from the console. Pressing CTRL+ALT+F1 does give me a black screen, the keyboard works fine but there's no picture.

I cannot seem to do anything as of now :(

I don't want to reinstall, prefer trying to fix things instead and here I'm asking you guys for help in my first thread.

The above assumes you're able to reboot(8)/shutdown(8) from the GDM login(1) -- that's not always possible. What you might also try, is to CTL+F2 - F8, meaning the Control key, plus any one of the F2 through F8 keys. This will provide you with a login(1) where you can log in, and edit the files wblock@ already mentioned, ithout the need to boot(8) single-user. Though you will then need to either [man=1]kill[/man] HUP the GDM process, or reboot(8), to appreciate the changes. In fact, if you make the changes, where kern.vt are concerned, a reboot(8) or sysctl(8) will be required. :)

Thanks guys,

I got this sorted out now. I booted to Single User Mode, edited the files as suggested and had to mount world with read and write.

Thanks again.
