problems installing dma in xfce4

New to Freebsd 14. Trying to install dragonfly mail, dma, in xfce4. I have tried to follow all the instructions in the Freebsd Handbook and DragonFly DMA website, but when I try to install dma as the Mail Reader in xfce4 using /usr/libexec/dma, I get error "Failed to execute default Mail reader Input Output error. I have attached the xfce Desktop Entry, /etc/dma/dma.conf, /etc/dma/auth.conf, /etc/periodic.conf. Any suggestions before I scrap the new recommended mail client for thunderbird or something else? thanks

Note that dma(8) is the default mailer in 14.0, it is included in the base. But what the heck does a desktop environment have to do with this? It's not a mail reader; MUA (Message User Agent), it is an MTA; Message Transfer Agent. It transfers mail from one place to another. Thunderbird and similar programs are MUA; they fetch or access mail from a mail server so a user (you) can read those emails. I suspect you're not familiar with these different concepts.
