ports options EXAMPLES

Hello.
In some ports have an EXAMPLES options during installation, what is it for?
What kind of examples are these?
If me set the port without examples, will it not affect the performance of the installed software?

 

[getopt]

The examples live in /usr/local/share/examples and are mostly configuration files that can be used as helpful templates for users.
