Port updated upstream - not in FreeBSD.

In short, a port I use daily was updated upstream, with not only code changes but also with the language used (zig). The current FreeBSD maintainer doesn't have the time to dedicate to it and he's willing to hand it over to anyone interested.

I tried to look at it but as is it doesn't compile under FreeBSD and I don't have the slightest idea on how to fix it, thus my question: what is the normal procedure in this case? Right now the version in the ports repository works just fine but maybe in the future it won't.

The software is x11/ly and the PR is PR 285093.

Wait for someone else to take over maintainership, or it gets thrown back to the pool (it becomes unmaintained). Then it's up to the community to update it, or not.

It could be non-trivial, as the master site (codeberg) states it requires zig 0.14 but in-tree lang/zig is at 0.13.0 now. The milage may vary with the incompatibilities (including zig's ecosystem).
Sorry, I've never researched / studied zig, so cannot help.

The current stable release (1.0.3) requires zig 0.13 . The future 1.1.x branch will require 0.14 .
