Hey shepper,
you have an ideas for get arround th hdmi connection, a command line for examples.
I going to change the sound card to an PCI 5.1, because i have a 5.1 home station.
The return are also like the 7.1 sound card, adressing issue, may be for hdmi output,
but i've not hdmi video card !

$ cat /dev/sndstat will list the sound devices that were recognized. See section 7.2.2 and 7.2.3 in the handbook.

pcm0 is the default sound device, usually HDMI, unless you specify otherwise. The simplest way to working sound is for you to use the onboard ati chip and specify where you are plugging in your speakers as the default pcm.

i do $ cat /dev/sndstat
>
Code:
root@dct-arthemis:/usr/home/phipo # cat /dev/sndstat
Installed devices:
pcm0: <ATI R6xx (HDMI)> (play) default
root@dct-arthemis:/usr/home/phipo #
i ask me why there only one device because there the default sound card into the motherboard.
i cannot change the pcm easy, because the control panel >> son, /dev/dsp0, here there are
a problem because at another PC inder FreeBSD i can chose the output/input by device.
how i can change for load the good parametres ?

Your question was already answered, there is no driver attached to the sound card you have. This either because there is no FreeBSD driver at all for the sound card you have or it's not loaded. It would really help if you could reveal the make and model of the sound card and not keep us guessing.

The sound card is a basic card, this that i reading :
************************************************
CEFC // VTS2391A

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
chipset
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
VIA - tremor
VT-1723-1232 CD
2IA0016701

If it is an older Via based sound card, it may use one of two drivers: snd_via8233(4) or snd_via82c686(4). These two drivers are not compiled in the default 10.3 kernel and would need to be loaded as described in the handbook page I linked in my first post.

You can also load all sound drivers with
# kldload snd_driver and see which one attaches to your card by re-issuing # cat /dev/sndstat

Hi,
After read the handbook section 7.2, i ask your, how to compile a new driver for the sound card,
also if i have a technical skills for do it. How can give the list of sound card compiled and including
to the distribution of FreeBSD, may be it's easy for me to buy another sound card 5.1.
If i'm go to step 2, compile a drivers for my PCI device, i hope to drive me for do it.
Where is the begin of tasks, about audio driver ?
I have a lots of question about it, for example how adressing the IRQ ?

Regards
Philippe

You don't have to worry about IRQs anymore, those are a relic from days of ISA hardware where an IRQ line directly corresponded to a software level IRQ and sharing those lines was impossible. The PCI bus and the BIOS together handle all IRQ assignments automatically and in fact the IRQ numbers you now see are a software level emulation only, on the level of the actual hardware the PCI bus has only four different electrical wires for interrupts named A, B, C and D. This means that on a typical machine with lots of PCI devices quite a few devices have to share the same electrical wire for interrupt signalling.

hi,
I found :
[i386,amd64] The snd_cmi(4) driver supports the following sound cards:
--------------->> CMedia CMI8738
It's another PC who had this card.
if i anderstand i must following do it !

Code:
kldload snd_cmi
snd_cmi_load="YES"
for automate this
/boot/loader.conf.
and
Code:
 kldload snd_driver
/boot/defaults/loader.conf

Regards
Philippe
