Open Hardware PowerPC Notebook

Hi Everyone

I'm a member of Powerpc notebook Group
We have aim to produce Notebook that uses Power ISA CPU

The notebok can run Free/Net/OpenBSD using U-Boot

You can visit our Website Open Hardware PowerPC notebook

We are Innovating and would like to have volunteers for this project

Any issue, you can ask on forum or this forum

why PowerPc?

Check Out technical specs of this new PowerPC notebook

Any comments are most welcome

I have an IBM ThinkPad PowerPC 820 which I am unable to boot. I'd love to repair it and install FreeBSD on it.
Is anyone in your group familiar with such an old machine? It was built in 1996.

We are currently building laptop based in POWER 7&8, so i have no idea of that old POWER processors
If there is someone who has worked upon it, I will let you know

Maybe the architecture is obscure to many here, but I am pretty fond of PowerPC, cut my teeth on the 603/604. I'll watch out for your laptop.

That looks reasonable.
But I have questions:
  1. When is it done?
  2. How much will it cost?
  3. Will it run FreeBSD?

To Answer your Questions
3. It has run FreeBSD/OpenBSD/NetBSD as we are using U-Boot for the development of AMD/ATI Radeon Driver and create a custom version of it for compilation
The remaining questions will be answered in few days time as cost and completion time is not known to me

Ok. I did some low level code back in the days. Do you urgently need something? I can't promise anything, but I might have a look.

As Of now
This are tasks, we looking to work. if you can help in any of these tasks then your are most welcome to volunteer
  1. Development of an AMD/ATI Radeon driver for U-Boot;
  2. Development of the device thee to fully exploit each hardware component of the board;
  3. Compile a custom U-Boot binary from up-to-date DENX sources;
  4. Provide the entire toolchain for cross compiling U-Boot and the device tree for PowerPC;
  5. Provide the documentation detailing all the technical aspects of both U-Boot and the device tree so that anybody will be able to understand how to rebuild it from scratch and how to customize it.

To Answer remaining the questions
  1. When is it done?
The date is not already defined, depend how long will go working with u-boot and complete to collect the donations from latest donation campaign, we suppose that ACube may start pre-orders before the end of the 2023.
How much will it cost?
The price is not already defined until all the needed test and certification will be complete , even if is in relation to the cost in the market of microchip that for some important component we have changes very much during last two year. In any case will be quite expensive due to the limited production, for the cost of the MXM Video card itslef, and the production of the motherboard in Italy.

Important clarification: the association Power Progress Community doesn't produce the notebook, will be produced by ACube Systems
