Other On running coding agents in FreeBSD (specially inside jails)

Hello!

First of all – I'm def new to the FreeBSD forums. If this is not the best place to post about this, please point me out to some best direction.

So, I've been playing and working with coding agents recently, and I wonder if anyone here had any success running some/any coding agent on FreeBSD, specially inside jails. I'm def not a FreeBSD, so I'm quite green to most of it – I recently tried to run Claude Code on FreeBSD and the Node.js installation broke vociferously. After about an hour trying to debug it, I gave up for the moment – but I expect to come back to it soon.

I'm posting it to see if someone/anyone had good DX on running CLI agents in FreeBSD. I find the jails "containerization" model quite appealing due to its secure-by-heart design. So it's def smt I'll be putting more time and effort to see it happening. So I'm all ears for any exp anyone might want to share. :)

I can run random ollama models on my AMD laptop with integrated GPU just fine. It's just a little slow.

The trick is to get CUDA to run for Linuxulator programs. Some managed.

Yep, ollama models run on an Intel laptop on just CPU, although slowly. I can run 8 bil parameters with quantization 4 at about 3 tokens/second.
