NVIDIA_SMI has failed because it couldn’t communicate with the NVIDIA driver in freebsd. How to solve it?

I presume the Nvidia card is on the host? Why are you expecting a virtual machine to have the same card as the host?

 
At least, I don't know any VM hosts supporting emulation of nvidia GPUs.

The only solution would be passing through nvidia GPU card to specific SINGLE guest on it, with the cost that the host could no longer use it by itself.

Unfortunately, I'm not familiar enough to tell how to pass GPU through reliably (even don't know whether it is possible or not on VirtualBox).
