no volume applet kde4

I don't seem to have a volume applet in kde4. I've tried to manually start kmix but it doesn't show any controls at all.
sound DOES work though, it shows up as oss device in settings.

Any idea what's going on?

You must install phonon-xine or phonon-gstreamer from ports (i use phonon-xine, works fine here).

thanks, will try that.

turns out phonon-xine was already installed.

like i said, i GET sound, i just do not have a volume applet
when i try to manually open kmix i don't have any controls.

this is an HP-G60-235DX laptop and i'm using OSS from ports to get sound.

edit:

incase anyone else runs into this problem, it was solved for me by disabling oss and runnign the second script in this thread
http://forums.freebsd.org/showthread.php?t=290

i then had to edit the options in kmix which worked, but now i have normal desktop volume settings.
