Solved No screen controls

I have no screen controls whilst running Chrome under LXDE. Unable minimise. maximise or exit. Alt-tab is unresponsive. Chrome is running full screen and I have no access to LXDE's options.

This has only recently happened. Things were working fine up to a few days ago

Can anyone suggested what I should look at or how to diagnose the problem?

Generally speaking, this is what a window manager takes care of. It's the component that provides a window you can resize, and the widgets to minimize, maximize, close, etc. So it sounds like LXDE's window manager failed to start, or perhaps crashed.

LXDE is unmaintained I think. I previously used mirage and it fell out of ports. It was LXDE image viewer.

I suggest you learn OpenBox. I am pretty sure LXDE is an offshoot. OpenBox is super simple but less structured.
Add packages tint2 and jgmenu and its pretty close to what you have.

LXQT is the successor to LXDE. That's what they say.....

Originally I installed XFCE as my first GUI and found it had too many things I didn't want.

Eventually I came across LXDE and have been using it for a number of years, and I like it because it is minimalist.

I could never get to grips with OpenBox when I tried it some time ago.

Personally, I don't like too many options because there are too many ways to get things wrong.

I'll have a read up on LXQT and maybe give it a go.

In my own opinion it is contradictory.
LXQT and lightweight. They don't belong in same sentence.
My OpenBox desktop is 320 packages. Compare that figure.

Your LXDE config files might be usable in Openbox. There are only a few config files.
Menu's, rc.xml and autostart.
I bet LXDE uses the same.
