No fair: adding links towards post limits!

Hi gang!

Just so we're clear: I'm not mad or anything (all good) but I am obviously "upset" with this major unjustice

More seriously: I don't like the 420 char limit, also because there's no way to tell if you reached it. But today I discovered that links also count towards this and I don't think that's fair.

Proof of concept right here:

So, what are we looking at? My latest profile post, well my comment thereof. Keyword: machdep.bootmethod. I learned something new today, and <= that was it. So I commented on that on my profile post (comment thereof) but I was greeted with the above error message. I fired up my trusty VS Code and lo and behold.. the actual size was well within the threshold.

Then I removed the actual link and wham.. posted (see previously shared link).

I don't think it's fair to include the contents of link targets towards the post amount.

And just so we're clear? => this is not an advocacy against those post limits, even though I'm one of the people why they probably exist. Those limits made me a better poster in general (I'm not kidding: this extends well beyond the realm of this forum); these limits help reflect, think and do things better (well.. at least more condensed, lol!).

But pls no link contents! ;)

I've typed novels before running into that; had to paste em into Notepad and try to shorten a few comments too :p

I like that it enforces a micro-blog style with the limit, something like Twitter's old 100-some limit; quick thoughts as the message, but in-depth discussions needed elsewhere. I like the idea of being a little vague to encourage research, so not posting direct links works with that :p

Only profile messages have a 420 character limit, regular posts have a 25000 character limit.

In business communications if you cannot say what you need in two of three sentences then you've already lost most of your audience. This is a tough pill for us tech geeks to swallow.

I swear some (albeit interesting) dialogues have surpassed this!

In business you aren't wrong, but in the tech world we have an attention span greater than a gold fish XD

I try to explain to my pet rabbits how RAII works and the out-of-band architecture required to benefit from it but they really aren't interested.
