Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP): comp.unix.bsd.freebsd.misc is no longer mainstream for questions

With only three real subjects last month, I think it fair to say that comp.unix.bsd.freebsd.misc is no longer mainstream:

Directing newcomers to an area such as that is less than ideal.

Please consider an amendment to the rules. Thank you.

I consider to be NNTP the most efficient method of communication. It is even better than mailing lists. One should not give up that medium with the argument of low traffic.

There's no suggestion to stop using NNTP.

It's simply not realistic to describe what's pictured above as mainstream. It might have been mainstream (alongside SMTP lists) a decade or so ago; no longer.

Unless I'm missing something, there exist only two comp.unix.bsd.freebsd. groups. The other group, pictured below, is for announcements, not questions.

Plus 1 vote from me. Usenet became irrelevant 20 years ago when it filled up with spam and trolling. No users, old or new, should be referred to usenet for assistance (unless the purchase of viagra is imperative ;)).

The fact the two main support avenues listed under the freebsd.org umbrella (Community) are listed as mailing lists and forums should further reinforce the obsolescence of such a rule.

Usenet is dead, it's nowadays just a place for spammers, trolls and binary leechers. You cannot expect meaningful discussions to happen there any longer. People moved on to mailing lists and web forums.

Even most ISPs don't have an own NNTP server any longer.
