My background in the *nix

However recently I've been using Linux but got sick of the vitriolic fanboyism. So as of right now, I'm installing midnight BSD because of the sole fact that it comes out of the box with a GUI after you answer yes to the question first boot question Do you want to install a window manager, which I replied yes so as it pulls down all of the files needed to install a GUI.

That seems kind of bad. What happens if you wanted to use a more "modern" GUI?

Once you get more familiar with *nix, you will probably prefer the choice offered by upstream FreeBSD.
