Solved Motherboard replacement?

Greetings all,

it appears that my motherboard is mostly dead, to quote The Princess Bride. All the rest of the hardware is in a good condition.

Considering, that I am running Generic kernel, can I just replace the motherboard, without reinstalling and re-configuring the O.S?

Kindest regards,

M

You might also need to adjust your UEFI settings in the new motherboard BIOS.
It would help to know whether you are running a UEFI or legacy BIOS install.
The difference is that UEFI requires an EFI partition at the beginning of the disk.
This will show you if you don't know and the old machine still runs.
sysctl machdep.bootmethod
If the machine is not bootable than you can boot up off a FreeBSD installer and chose LiveCD on the new motherboard .
Then examine the disk partitions with gpart show.

Hi vigole, Phishfry,

thank you for your answers. Neither the dying board, nor the (old) new board have UEFI type BIOS.

Kindest regards,

M
