In September 2018 Rackspace had the most reliable hosting company website, with zero failed requests and the second fastest average connection time of 7ms. This is the second time in 2018 that Rackspace has had the most reliable hosting company website, and the fifth time Rackspace has been in the top 10 in the same period. Rackspace provides a diverse range of managed cloud hosting solutions to customers around the globe, with data centres and offices in the US, Europe, Asia, and Australia.

Six other hosting companies' websites also responded to all of Netcraft's requests in September. EveryCity and Bigstep were ranked second and third with an average connection times of 71.8ms and 72.0ms respectively. EveryCity offers both its own cloud hosting solutions as well as managed third-party solutions. Fourth place was close behind, with vXtream achieving an average connection time of 75 ms.

GoDaddy, in eighth place, had the fastest average connection time of 6ms. krystal.co.uk returned to the top 10 for the first time since March 2017. Krystal is an independent UK-based hosting company and has the highest average Trustpilot score of any UK hosting company.

Linux is the most popular operating system among the top 10 this month, accounting for eight of the 10 sites. SmartOS makes an appearance in second place with EveryCity, and Pair Networks use FreeBSD.

Netcraft measures and makes available the response times of around thirty leading hosting providers' sites. The performance measurements are made at fifteen minute intervals from separate points around the internet, and averages are calculated over the immediately preceding 24 hour period.

From a customer's point of view, the percentage of failed requests is more pertinent than outages on hosting companies' own sites, as this gives a pointer to reliability of routing, and this is why we choose to rank our table by fewest failed requests, rather than shortest periods of outage. In the event the number of failed requests are equal then sites are ranked by average connection times.

Information on the measurement process and current measurements is available.
