Is it possible to detect the frequencies used by remote control device such as those for TVs, cars etc with some sort of RF reciever and if so is it possible to transmit them?

You can receive radio signals with SDR receiver and trying to decode them... but TV's ?? TV remote controllers are infrared not radio.

I'm just showing my ignorance....

So, is there a device which can be used to decode, send and receive infrared signals?

I guess I'm talking about an IrDA adapter...
