Minimalist autologin solution

Currently I'm using kdm only to autologin my (only one) user into X session.
Which minimalist solution exists for autologin? There is no need for login screen when laptop is used mainly by one person but having gdm or kdm only for autologin is a bit ridiculous.

If I understand correctly X messages aren't redirected to .xsession-errors file when X are started in this way?

Which way? Through /etc/ttys autologin, everything works the same as normal AFAIK.

For slim edit /usr/local/etc/slim.conf: set default_user and autologin
Also edit ~/.xinitrc and ensure the exec filename is fully qualified (full path) e.g.
exec /usr/local/bin/xfce4-session
if using xfce

I did see it was a old thread, but added my observation because I had to search around for that slim solution myself and thought I'd add it here just in case others followed later.

Like that minimalist solution of yours uzsolt.

Using your favourite text editor create a file named autologinfred.c and type in this short C program:
