ZFS Max number of files in a single directory before a performance hit

Hi all, here goes my first post in freebsd forum:)

For zfs, I'd like to know how many files I can store in a single directory before the performance of accessing the files degrades. I know the max number of files can be saved in a single dir is 2^48, but it is unclear at which point the performance will take a hit.

I found this zfs and lots of files, which is a great test, but also seems a little extreme.

Thanks.
