MATE MATE, can't login with correct password.

If I enter the wrong password, the login screen will not login and says "incorrect password" as it should.

But if I use the RIGHT one, it flashes, and suddenly my password is gone and it's like I never entered it. After I enter all the characters, I hit enter or press login, boom does it again. And again. It's useless.

Someone please fix this bug. I can't use MATE and I can't use GNOME and they're all useless.

I'm running Mate, and typing this on Mate.

The difference should be that I don't use any graphical login managers like gdm to start Mate. I login to FreeBSD with legacy CUI and start Mate via command line. Unlocking screensaver usually works with password (fragile under quite and quite heavy load of massive poudriere builds, though).

Maybe your installation lacks some mandatory configuration for graphical login. But I cannot advice about it as I've never configured it.

I think those symptoms are due to a crash of the X session. Press Ctrl alt f1 and try to log in with the command

sh:
startx -- :2 mate-session

Note cap between -- and :2
