When starting a thread, select a prefix. There's a drop-down menu to the left of the thread title. For an existing thread that you started, it's the same as marking a thread [solved]: edit the top post, click "Go Advanced", select the prefix (again to the left of the thread title) and save. Note that the available prefixes differ between (sub)forums, e.g. you can select [ZFS] in "Storage" and [PF] in "Firewalls", but not vice versa.
