Solved lightdm blackscreen

it has to be something minute but on a new install freebsd 13.2 xorg, lightdm, and its greeter, and settings manager, enlightenment rc.conf kld_list="amdgpu" lightdm_enable=yes it boots into it(?) leaving me looking at a completely back screen .

startx > .xinitrc exec enlightenment_start works though. so I know my desktop is working properly.
how to get lightdm to display properly? on this install I am in right now, it just worked without issues.

Be sure that the lightdm configuration file ( /usr/local/etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf ) exists. It should look something like this:
Code:

If you prefer to start your X-windows desktop environment from the command line, login to your non-root user account and enter this command to create the .xinitrc file:

exec ck-launch-session dbus-launch --exit-with-session enlightenment_start

Then, as you apparently already know, anytime you want to start X-windows from a text terminal, login again to your non-root user account and enter this command:

startx
